HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Developer John Wisda emerged victorious Thursday night in his nearly three-year rezoning battle with residents of Branscomb Road in southeast Huntsville.
The City Council voted 3-1, with Bill Kling opposed, to rezone Wisda’s 23-acre subdivision site from Residence 1-B to Residence 2. The change means he can build houses closer together, and with greater lot coverage, than what is allowed in the surrounding area.
After the vote, Wisda said he hopes to begin construction on his Greenway Park subdivision – the name refers to its proximity to Aldridge Creek Greenway – in the next few days. The property has already been cleared and the streets installed.
Wisda, who owns NewCastle Homes, said he intends to build all 35 houses in Greenway Park himself. They will sell for between $200,000 and $300,000, he said.
